On April 22nd 2011 the "Via delle Essenze" route was inaugurated, thanks to the Costa del Sole Association that produces the perfumes for Acqua dell'Elba, the Tuscan Archipelago National Park, and Legambiente.

The route is 15 km long, and links the whole of the south western side of Elba, from Colle d'Orano (Marciana) to Cavoli (Campo nell'Elba), across Chiessi, Pomonte, Fetovaia and Seccheto.

A path across nature of various levels of difficulty that will enable you to discover a hidden island, rich in historical and naturalistic remains as well as unique panoramas.
The path is open all year round, so walkers can truly appreciate this suggestive part of Elba, regardless of what season they're in , where the only proof of the passing of time are the changes in colour, perfumes and light.

This route is mostly along the coast, so the sea is always in sight, and the scenery and panoramas are better than any you can find in any of the other islands of the Tuscan Archipelago or on the eastern coast of Corsica.
There are many interesting aspects from a naturalistic point of view: the route that goes round from north to south, often changing height level and exposure, offers you many different environments. You go from a holm oak wood to heather scrub, strawberry trees and broom, cistus garrigue and cytisus, then the highly scented lavander, helichrysum and rosemary. A true treasure chest of bio diversity where many different forms of animal life are waiting to be found.

The historical aspect of the territory is equally important: all along the route there are remains of prehistoric settlements and necropolis, traces of past agriculture that has characterised these places for the past two thousand years.
